An entrepreneurial apprenticeship where under-resourced youth create real companies & develop as economic leaders

The problem we aim to solve:

WeThrive is on a mission to close the achievement gap that exists amongst students of higher and lower-income households through hacking socioeconomic mobility. Through this, we are disrupting the poverty cycle for the youth we work with, ensuring a path of economic mobility.

The solution our project offers:

Our programs reach low-income students in struggling public schools. We train college student changemakers to lead youth in creating a company, earning real revenues as they also acquire mentors and learn skills, habits and mindset necessary to succeed in school and in tomorrow's workforce.

The impact our project had so far:

Skills and habits. Over 90% report improvement in agency, self-esteem, and resilience.

About the project

an entrepreneurial mentoring program that pairs college students with middle school students of under-resourced communities.

WeThrive programs reach students young while habits and identity are still forming, giving them the encouragement and toolset to realize their dreams of academic and career success. Our impact is anchored in an afterschool curriculum proven to engage youth left behind by other programs, designed by leaders with first-hand knowledge of the problems facing low-income communities. WeThrive staff equips college student changemakers as mentors for teams of students, leading young people through a program that leverages the excitement of entrepreneurship and real revenue to drive long-term change.

With support from their mentors, each student creates their very own company with real revenues, working in afterschool sessions and at home to build assets and skills with a proven link to academic career outcomes: skills centered on textual and financial literacy; character traits like self-esteem, self-efficacy, and grit; and hard assets including high-power professional networks. Powering locally committed chapters with the best automation tools of startups, WeThrive is designed to grow quickly to help a generation of students unleash their intellectual and economic potential.

WeThrive gave me the ability to do things I never thought I was capable of. Not only did I learn the ropes of becoming an entrepreneur, but I was taught how to speak to people and tools that could lead me to success in nearly any situation. WeThrive isn’t about creating a company, it’s about building opportunities that otherwise wouldn’t have been available
