About the project

Syafunda’s mission is to educate, inspire and empower young people by providing access to world class education anywhere, anytime, all the time.

Zakheni Ngubo

More than 91% of learners in South Africa fail high school Maths and Science due to shortages of teachers, text books, overcrowding and teacher training in rural and township schools across the country.

Syafunda is addressing these challenges by producing interactive video tutorials in local languages with some of the best teachers in the country. Distributing them directly to learners’ mobile devices for free through a wireless network located in high schools.

Through online tests and assessments we use analytics to identify, capture and monitor performance data and profile each student for support, career guidance, and university scholarship placement.

We’re digitising the South African curriculum through mobile video lessons.

We believe in the idea that your work ethic, integrity and character should determine your destiny and your future not your background, language of financial status. Perhaps more than anything that belief is what led to the creation of Syafunda, it is about challenges the status-quo and giving every individual who wants to learn the tools and resources to do so and perhaps giving them a fighting chance at a future of growth and contribution.
