Kusini Water

Kusini Water is ensuring communities have access to safe drinking water.

The problem we aim to solve:

Over 1 billion people lack access to safe drinking water globally. While at the same time 50% of all water projects in the developing world die within the first 2 to 3 years due to lack of sustainability, we exist to solve that.

The solution our project offers:

A mobile, solar-powered water purification system that uses locally sourced macadamian nut shells and an off-grid power system to provide safe-drinking water in rural areas.

The impact our project had so far:

We've opened our first plant & outlet in Limpopo. Our technology's provided safe drinking water to over 5 communities.

About the project

Murendeni Mafumo is the founder of Kusini Water. Kusini Water provides safe drinking water to people in rural areas by means of a solar- powered water purification system. Murendeni is a firm believer in the importance of providing sustainable and safe drinking water, particularly to people in rural areas who cannot necessarily afford to buy bottled water. “Clean water shouldn’t be something people are forced to compromise on.” The first Kusini Water plant operates from Limpopo using locally sourced macadamia nut shells to make an activated carbon filter, which uses solar power for water purification.
